The news of his death was nothing short of heartbreaking for his family, but having to hear the details of the moment that Steve Irwin lost his life must have been absolutely devastating.

The deceased star – who shot to fame as The Crocodile Hunter – died after his heart was pierced by a stingray barb back in 2006, and his family were left deeply hurt when cameraman Justin Lyons opened up on Steve’s final moments. Lyons had previously signed a pact of silence, promising not to speak publicly about the incident.

Lyons previously said, on live TV: “He obviously didn’t know it had punctured his heart…even if we had got him into an emergency ward at that moment we probably wouldn’t have been able to save him.”

“I was saying to him things like ‘think of your kids Steve, hang on, hang on, hang on’, and he calmly looked up at me and said, ‘I’m dying’, and that was the last thing he said,” Justin added.

Now, Steve’s heartbroken dad Bob has revealed how Justin’s revelations have impacted upon him.

“I personally felt very sad and to a degree angry about what Justin had to say. For a lot of people trying to get on with their lives without Steve, it wasn’t something that helped by any means,” said a distraught Bob.

Steve’s wife, Terri, and children Bindi and Robert, have continued on Steve’s legacy with their own conservation work in the past nine years since his death.
