We actually can’t believe we have to write a story like this – but we think it’s important we do.

One woman was sent a despicable note by an anonymous person, nastily scrawled with, “Women who weigh 300 pounds should not wear yoga pants!”

And if that wasn’t hurtful enough, it was accompanied with a photo of a woman in leggings, with a meme saying, “Your pants say yoga, but your butt says McDonald’s”.

Words fail us.

The note was addressed to Florida mum Kelly Markland, who shared the note on her Facebook page.

“Apparently, I weigh 300 pounds and I shouldn’t wear leggings anymore,” she wrote. “Anyone who knows me, knows that I care deeper and stronger than many. I am a sensitive woman and I despise cruelty towards others. At 36 years old, I am STILL being made fun of.”

Naturally Kelly was devastated that someone would take the time to cut her down in such a cruel way.

“Wearing my “fun” leggings gave me a tad bit of confidence in not looking sloppy all the time,” she wrote. “I'm sorry that some of you may not like it, but I'm not dressing for you. All the hate in this world, and you have to pick on me for this?! Thank you for making me feel like absolute, complete s**t. A wonderful night with my family had to end like this… so unbelievably disappointed in people.”

Clearly the person who sent this is an unhappy sort – because why else would you do something so horrible? But it does raise an important point: this societal belief that people who don’t fit a certain ideal can’t wear whatever the hell they want.

We often hear stuff like, “Cover it up”, or “You shouldn’t be wearing a bikini” – and we say bulls**t. Why should anyone EVER cover up just to save someone’s misguided ‘sensibilities’?

“Whoever sent this, be an adult and tell me who you are,” Kelly demands. “JUST TELL ME!!!”

But we have a feeling this coward won’t.
