37-year-old Michelle Thompson, who is currently campaigning with other parents to find out what happened to the remains of their children, has opened up about the death of her son eighteen years ago.

Michelle's five-month-old son died from cot death in May 1997 and ten years later his devastated mother learned that her son's organs had been removed without her consent following his tragic demise.

Having held a funeral for her son in Glasgow 1997, Michelle felt compelled to hold a second ceremony upon discovering her son's remains had been used for medical research.

Michelle opened up about the distress she felt when she was initially told that the crematorium could not provide her son's ashes, and then went on describe the devastation she endured when she learned of the hospital's treatment of her son's remains.

Dylan's mum spoke of her sadness, saying: "I have been robbed of my son twice. Once by the crematorium who denied me his ashes and then by Yorkhill Hospital who took his body parts without any consideration for how I would feel about that without permission."

Expressing her disbelief at the actions undertaken by the hospital, Michelle said: "I can't believe anyone would be allowed to get away with that."

Michelle's case is to be investigated by a team led by former Lord Advocate Dame Elish.
