Floaters can be easily diagnosed. You will notice floaters particularly when looking at a light background, like a blue sky. If you notice floaters that are particularly large, numerous and floaters that seem to have appeared quite quickly then you should consult with your ophthalmologist.

Your ophthalmologist will be able to conduct a thorough eye examination from which he will be able to diagnose floaters. The examination will include analysing your description of the floaters, dilating your eye and looking at the back of the eye with an ophthalmoscope.
