Your G.P. or paediatrician will determine the presence of a stye by examining your child’s eye. The doctor will be able to make a diagnosis based on the appearance of the eye. No further testing is generally required.

Styes are easy to recognise when the stye is on the eyelid margin pointing outwards. It can however be more difficult to diagnose a stye when they point towards the inside of the eyelid margin and they can also be confused with a chalazion.
