There are some truly amazing doctors and nurses out there, and we are constantly in awe when we hear of how they manage to save tiny, vulnerable little lives on a daily basis.

Luckily for 18-year-old Lucy-Marie Smith, doctors in the UK were able to count her baby, Sophia-Rose, among their little miracles, recently.

According to a report in the Mirror, Sophia-Rose was saved by being wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in an incubator after being born at just 24 weeks.

In an interview, mum Lucy-Marie recalled how she was six months gone when she grew concerned and went to hospital to check that everything was okay. Doctors there assured the young mum-to-be that she wasn’t in labour, and she was sent home shortly after.

However, Lucy-Marie started to bleed when she got home and, at 2am the next morning, she delivered her daughter after ‘feeling the urge to push’.

The tiny tot, who weighed in at 1lb 3oz, was rushed to hospital and placed in intensive care. There, she was wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a ventilator. Despite enduring a bleed on the brain, little Sophia-Rose has beaten all the odds to survive and thrive.

Lucy-Marie, who hopes to bring her baby home for Christmas told the Mirror: “Sophia-Rose was born still inside her amniotic sac, which is meant to be lucky, and she's certainly needed that luck. When she was born they covered her tiny body in bubble wrap to keep her warm. It probably saved her life.”

Meanwhile, dad Luke added: “The dream for me is to be able to bring her home. I can't wait to tuck her up in her own bed."

We’re wishing Sophia-Rose all the best with the journey ahead.
