A grandmother from the Magdalena department in northern Colombia, was so convinced her grandson had been swapped by the hospital that she demanded they swap him back.

And her reason: she thought he was too ugly and "could not identify him as a new member of the family", according to the Mirror

"The grandmother was not very happy," Carlos Pallares, health secretary on Santa Marta' city council, said.

"She did not identify the baby as a new member of the family and therefore she decided to come back to the clinic along with the mother of the baby to return him."

However, no swap had taken place - he was the only boy born on that day - and after a health check the youngster was sent home with his mum.

But, according to the reports, City council spokesman Chadan Rosado urged people not to be too quick to judge the grandmother for her actions, adding that she was being treated by a psychologist.

"The situation should be accepted. Sometimes biology, genetics play a role in these mistakes and we should accept them."
