We speak a lot about parents’ experiences with losing a little one, but children rarely step up to a platform to discuss their feelings about losing a mother or father; this is something that one very brave Australian teen has decided to turn around.

Kira Dart-Hullick lost her mother Bianca earlier this year following a long battle with depression, brought on by the loss of Kira’s father back in 2002.

An orphan at 14, Kira has endured immense pain since the loss of her mother, and has set up a Facebook page, Beyond the Dark, in a bid to help others.

The teen has become a viral sensation this week, after a powerful letter she wrote to all those living with depression struck a chord online.

Recalling her mother’s battle with the condition, Kira wrote: “To look into my mother’s eyes was like looking through glass; lost in a world, and no one could get her back. Lost forever, and she felt there was no way out. To see her smile was like a mask.”

Kira, who has two siblings, shared her advice to the loved ones of those suffering with depression: “Tell them their beauty. Tell them you love them, before it’s too late. Some battlers make it through, but when they lose themselves is when you know they're gone.”

The brave teen saved a very special plea for those warriors fighting a daily battle with the illness, however, urging parents who may be suffering to hold on.

“If you are a mother or a father going through depression, do not leave your children behind. I do not want anyone to go through what I am going through. It is a horrible thing. Once you are gone, you are gone forever…Suicide is not the answer to relieve your pain. It’s not the only way out,” she appealed.

She added: “My brothers and I have to now grow up without our mother…To live with the fact she is gone and is never coming back is one of the hardest things.”

Our hearts go out to Kira and her family at this devastating time.
