He has captured the hearts of total strangers around the world, so we can completely understand why the Queen would be willing to let royal protocol slide when it comes to Prince George and how he addresses her.

The Duchess of Cambridge has revealed that, while everyone around him refers to the Queen as Her Majesty, little Prince George has his own special nickname for his great-grandmother: Gan-Gan.

Mum-of-two Kate made the sweet revelation during an interview for a forthcoming ITV documentary marking the Queen’s 90th birthday: Our Queen at Ninety.

“George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her ‘Gan-Gan.’ She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for her family,” Kate told the interviewer.

As for her own relationship with the Queen, Kate could not have spoken more highly of the monarch in the preview clip released this weekend.

“She’s been very generous in not being forceful at all and in any of her views, but I feel she’s been there – a gentle guidance, really, for me,” she added.

We’re looking forward to watching the documentary in its entirety.
