Chocolate never fails to make us feel better, especially on those days when nothing seems to go right. You know those days when you don’t hear your alarm, you miss your bus and get caught in the rain on the way to work? Chocolate always makes those days that little bit better.

However, there are times when we can’t help but feel guilty about the giant Dairy Milk bar we just consumed in ten minutes- so much sugar, so unhealthy.

Luckily, researchers have discovered that chocolate is good for your stress levels. Two studies from the Loma Linda University in California discovered that eating chocolate can boost your mood.

They analysed the impact the flavonoids in dark chocolate had on the human brain. They discovered that the more cacao the better the impact it has on your stress levels and general mood.

“The more sugar, the happier we are,” said lead researcher Lee S. Berk.

He added, “This is the first time that we have looked at the impact of large amounts of cacao in doses as small as a regular-sized chocolate bar in humans over short or long periods of time, and are encouraged by the findings.”

He explained that the studies have shown them that a higher concentration of cacao has a positive impact on mood, immunity, memory and cognition.

Unfortunately a family sized Galaxy bar isn’t going to reduce your stress levels as much as a dark chocolate bar will, but the study has made us feel that little bit better about our chocolate addiction.
