Ed Sheeran has honoured 11-year-old Melody Driscoll who sadly passed away from an incurable brain disease.

The Thinking Out Loud singer posted a heartfelt photo of him and Melody together on Instagram. He captioned the photo: “Rest in peace beautiful Melody x”

Melody had been suffering from Rett syndrome, which is a very rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder. The disorder affects the development of the brain, preventing people from using their muscles properly. It has a severe impact on speech, eye and body movements.

Melody was unable to talk or walk because of the disorder. She was a huge fan of the Castle on the Hill singer and was lucky enough to meet him on several occasions.

It is understood that Ed was incredibly moved by Melody’s story. The duo first met in 2016, and later at one of his shows at the O2 arena in London.

Her mum said the Galway Girl singer was great with her little girl: “He arrived and for the first five minutes Melody was starstruck. He had to show off his tattoos and then she just smiled, the way the two of them reacted together was just so good to watch."

He also supported her family financially by donating one of his guitars to raise money for her treatment.
