While the showbiz headlines spoke of the ‘joy’ of welcoming her second child into the world, it turns out that Eva Mendes’ heart was breaking behind the scenes.

The actress has opened up about the tragedy of last April, when she buried her beloved brother Carlos and gave birth to her second child - all in the space of one week.

Eva spoke candidly about losing Carlos, who died from cancer at the age of 53, in an interview with Latina magazine.

Admitting that the loss brought her family closer together, the 42-year-old said: “To see everybody be there for one another and show up, I feel so lucky to have them. And then they were there for me when Amada was born.”

“We had a funeral service for him, and that same week I had the baby. So it was really, really intense and obviously beyond heartbreaking – but also kind of beautiful,” she added.

Eva and her partner, Ryan Gosling, welcomed baby Amada Lee on 29th April. The couple are, of course, also parents to one-year-old Esmeralda Amada.

Eva, who is the cover star of Latina’s September issue, went on to reveal that it would take ‘something really special’ to tempt her away from her career hiatus.

“Right now, I feel very fortunate to be home with my kids. I feel so lucky, and I’m just taking advantage of that,” said the mum.
