When it comes to celebrity pairings, Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are notoriously private about their family life.

Both Mendes and Gosling have openly spoken of the constant support they have in each other, but rarely on a public platform. We don't know much when it comes to the inner workings of the relationship or family life - the couple has two daughters -   but Mendes recently opened up about Gosling and her daughters in a new (and rarely given) interview.

In an interview with People Chica, Mendes discussed how her family celebrates its Cuban heritage, adding that her three-year-old Esmeralda was bilingual.

"Esmeralda mostly speaks Spanglish right now. It’s really cute," Mendes said about her oldest daughter. "She’s definitely bilingual, and it’s really important for us to make sure that she’s not only just familiar with the language, but also with the culture."

The actress explained that she relied on her parents to help her daughters, 3-year-old Esmeralda and 1-year-old Amada, learn about their culture and background. She added that her mother spoke Spanish with both girls as well as cooking them Cuban food. They also learn Spanish from their grandfather, who as it happens, doesn't speak English.

"My mom, who lives 15 minutes away, makes it is easy because she speaks to the girls in Spanish and cooks them Cuban food. And we’re always listening to Cuban music. It really is a big part of our way of life. I wouldn’t have it any other way," she continued.

"My dad, who has been here for 45 years and still doesn’t speak English, is a real asset," she said. "It’s so cool because now that I’m trying to make sure that my girls speak Spanish, it’s like, ‘OK, Dad, take them,’ because I know that all they’re going to speak with him is Spanish."

Late in 2016 in GQ, Gosling praised Mendes' parenting skills, saying he was living the "dream" when it came to his family life.  "Eva's the dream mother, and they're dream babies, and it's like a dream that I'm having right now. I'm dreaming it all," he said.
