Now that the summer is finally here, all we want to do is let the kids run free and enjoy the sunshine, but a stark warning has been issued to parents this week.

With reports of children being hospitalised in Wales after suffering adder bites, experts are advising the public to avoid long grass and sand dunes, which have been described as ‘high risk’ areas for the snakes.

Apparently, the warm weather tends to drive the snakes out of hiding and into broad daylight – meaning that we have to be extra vigilant when our little ones are playing this summer.

The warning comes after two reports hit the headlines in the UK, documenting how a 13-year-old and a three-year-old had been bitten by adders this week.

According to the Daily Post, the first case involved a 13-year-old, who was rushed to hospital in Gwynedd after being bitten by one of the creatures.

Elsewhere, in Anglesey, a three-year-old was out walking with his father when he ran ahead and suffered a bite. The tot ran back to tell his father that he had seen a snake, and only minutes later he grew pale and complained of feeling sick.

Both kids ended up on heart monitors after the frightening ordeals.

If you are venturing out into the countryside in the fine weather, be sure to stay on your guard.
