In a move which has been lauded by thousands of her fans and followers, mum-of-two, Jaime King, has made the decision to open up about the abuse she experienced as a child.

Following on from Lady Gaga's emotional performance of Til It Happens To You at Sunday night's Oscars ceremony, Jaime took to her social media channels to pay tribute to the individuals who helped her cope with the abuse she endured from the age of 12.

Uploading an image of herself at the age of 14, the Hart of Dixie star revealed that she, like Lady Gaga, the women who joined her on stage and millions more, had been the victim of abuse which she concealed to everyone, but a few choice loved ones.

In a moving post, the actress, who welcomed her youngest child in July of last year, paid tribute to certain people in her life, writing "SURVIVOR - Thank you@kylenewman for loving me whole | My children | @lenadunham for her relentless bravery that always leads my Spirit to stand up."

In addition to thanking the professionals who treated her and the friends who have supported her, Jaime then turned her attention to the organisations who seek to help survivers of abuse, writing: "Thank you to @unwomen and all organizations that have tirelessly worked to somehow comfort and make right."

The actress, who wed Kyle Newman in 2007, then acknowledged the strenght she possesses and the courage she showed during the darkest periods of her life, writing: "Thank you to myself for not choosing to make this a cover story though that was what was suggested to me but to express from my heart to you all personally which felt the most honest way for me to speak."

"Thank you to my Soul, body, mind, emotions, my inner child, my younger self. I love you. It's a night of celebration, of change, of not being ashamed of your race, creed, colour, situation, circumstances and enviroment, or past," she continued.

Acknowledging the open dialogue created by women like Lady Gaga and Kesha, Jaime insisted: "Now I am free somewhat. Thank you for the switch that went off inside finally when I realized my silence said I cannot help nor change and that is who I am."

The mum-of-two finished her post, which has amassed thousands of likes in recent hours, with the words: "I love you all very much for creating a safe space. The time is now. I was 14 here, it started at 12. Peace be Still."

Jaime has been inundated with messages of support since going public with her past, with one Instagram user writing: "Thank you for your honesty. I am a survivor too but I have a hard time talking about it because when I did tell people I got the 'why didn't you scream or you could have done this'. Thank you for your strenght."

We applaud Jaime's courage this morning.
