He has never been one to shy away from controversy, but ever since announcing his run for the American presidency, Donald Trump’s often shocking statements have come back to haunt him.

This was perfectly evident during this week’s first presidential candidate debate, during which Trump was called out for his misogynistic insults against women.

FOX News correspondent Megyn Kelly was grilling the multi-billionaire when she said: “You’ve called women ‘fat pigs’, ‘dogs’, ‘slobs’, ‘disgusting animals’.”

Interrupting her, Trump’s shocking response was: “Only Rosie O’Donnell!”

While the audience bizarrely erupted into a fit of laughter at Trump’s comment, one person who was horrified to her core was Rosie herself.

The star, who is a mother-of-five, summed up just how disgraceful Trump’s words and attitude were as she simply tweeted: “Try explaining that 2 [your] kids.”

The actress’ followers jumped to her defence, with one assuring her: “Not worth your breath, Ro. He’s a scumbag. Always has been, always will.”

While Trump may not have any regrets about that particular comment, it seems that his behaviour during and after the debate has come back to bite him.

After joking that Megyn Kelly must have been menstruating during the candidate’s debate, he has now been officially banned from a major political event, the RedState Gathering.
