The media world is in mourning today, following the sad news that British restaurant critic AA Gill has died at the age of 62.
The Sunday Times writer’s passing comes just three weeks after he revealed that he had been diagnosed with ‘an embarrassment of cancer’, in a magazine interview.
The news was confirmed by Sunday Times editor Martin Ivens, who reportedly sent the following memo to staff: “It is with profound sadness that I must tell you that our much-loved colleague Adrian Gill died this morning.”
“Adrian was stoical about his illness, but the suddenness of his death has shocked us all,” Ivens added, describing Gill as the ‘heart and soul’ of the newspaper.
He revealed that an article Gill wrote about coming to terms with his cancer is set to be published in tomorrow’s Sunday Times magazine.
Truly saddened by the news of AA Gill's passing, especially so soon after his announcement that he had cancer. #AAGill
