There are very few amongst us who haven't spent an hour, a day or an entire weekend slobbing out in front of the latest reality television show.

And with shows like The Only Way is Essex winning BAFTAs, it's no surprise millions of us tuned in to find out what all the fuss is about.,,and promptly became addicted.

And while we may know they offer us very little intellectually, we still find ourselves defending our love of reality television, often dubbing it "our guilty pleasure".

However, if findings from a recent survey are anything to go by, our love of all things 'realistic' says more about our personalities than we might realise.

According to research published in Psychology of Popular Media Culture, people who indulge their love of reality TV were found to be more narcissistic than their peers who switch off when the latest episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians starts.

In contrast, those amongst us who make sure to tune into news shows scored much lower on the narcissism scale.

Commenting on the disparity, the study said: "One possible explanation for this finding is that individuals who pay more attention to the news are also more civically engaged and less individualistic."

Well, that's us told then!
