It can be a little daunting getting intimate with a new partner, especially if you have been out of the dating scene for a long time, but it is not something you should be worried about.

To ensure it is an exiting time, follow these five tips:

1. Make sure you are ready

Wait until you feel comfortable and don’t do anything you aren’t ready for. It is perfectly acceptable to wait - you should never rush yourself just to please your partner.

2. Enjoy the moment

When you finally do take the plunge, remember to enjoy yourself! Stop worrying about your body, or things not turning out as you’d like – it’s meant to be fun.

3. Talk about it first

Be open and honest about your feelings and about what you are interested in and what you aren’t. This way you are less likely to feel uncomfortable and it will be about exploring each other - not doing anything crazy!

4. Don’t drink too much

It can be a little scary getting intimate for the first time, but steer clear of the drink. While it might give you courage, it will also affect your ability to perform and how you feel the next morning. This is meant to be a special time!

5. Start off slow

Even if you know that tonight’s the night, don’t just immediately jump into bed. Spend a little time getting to know each other’s body through kissing and touching taking it slowly before moving on to the moment you have been waiting for.
