It is an issue that has been raised again and again, and now a mum in the US has issued a warning over the potential dangers of co-sleeping.

A Michigan woman, who is referred to only as Angela, has gone public with the heartbreaking story of her son’s death, in a bid to raise awareness for other mums.

Little Everett James was just five months old when his dad Ryan arrived home and found him in bed with his mum, Angela, last month. When the couple discovered their son to be unresponsive, they contacted emergency services, but sadly they were unable to save him.

Now, a devastated Angela has shared her story in the hope that no other mother will have to endure what she has been through.

Angela posted the details of the horrific incident in a Facebook post, in which she admitted: “We didn’t think an accident could ever happen to us, until the night Ryan came home to Everett and I sleeping together and Everett not breaking.”

In the post, which has now gone viral, she went on to explain how she and Ryan carried out CPR on their son while they waited for emergency services to respond, adding that it was too late and they “had lost him”. A medical report has since stated that the child likely died because he was sleeping in the bed with his mother.

Concluding her post, Angela warned: “As much as you love to snuggle and cuddle your little one, please resist the temptation to do so in bed. No matter how difficult it may seem at the time, put them to sleep in their own crib and avoid the greatest pain that one can experience in life – the pain that we are now experiencing.”

Our hearts go out to Angela, Ryan and their family. Hopefully, by sharing their tragic story, they will be able to save lives.
