She welcomed her son into the world two months ago, and now Jennifer Metcalfe has spoken candidly about the unexpected complications of his birth.

The Hollyoaks star, who is mum to Daye Colmic with partner Greg Lake, opened up during an interview on ITV’s Lorraine.

She told Christine Bleakley, who is standing in for Lorraine Kelly this week, that she initially had no idea that anything was wrong.

However, afterwards she learned that little Daye was born with a knot in his umbilical cord.

“When he came out, our gorgeous little boy, his cord was in a knot,” she explained.

“They said it happens to one in 100 babies, and it doesn’t end very nice – it can end in a stillbirth.

“It was quite a tight knot too, which stops the oxygen and food getting to him, but our little man defied the odds, and here he is.”

The 34-year-old admitted that her labour was ‘a bit of a challenge’, but she heaped praise on the midwives who got her through it safe and sound.

“They were just holding my hands and made me feel like Super Woman. If something was wrong, I wouldn’t have known about it,” she added.

Jennifer, who has been with former Geordie Shore star Greg for five years, announced her pregnancy news back in February.

The couple went on to welcome their little one on June 20, introducing him to the world in an exclusive photo shoot in OK! magazine.

Jennifer and Greg opted for a very unique name, and the actress previously opened up about the sentimental meaning behind Daye Colmic.

While Daye just came to Jennifer one day, Colmic is an amalgamation of both of their fathers’ names.

“My dad was called Colin, and Greg’s dad is Mick,” Jennifer explained.

“Greg quite likes having the dads’ names carry on, and I’m not a fan of having more than one middle name.

“I wanted something original, and then our friends Rachel Adedeji and husband John Finegan were up visiting, and it just sounded nice coming out of her mouth.”

We think it’s a gorgeous tribute!

The dramatic birth aside, Jennifer and Greg seem to be enjoying every moment of their experience of parenthood, saying that they ‘adore’ their son.
