After enduring a miscarriage, Sheryl and Jon Blanksby were delighted to have a beautiful rainbow baby, a little boy named Thomas.

Thomas seemed to be a perfectly happy and content baby, who both slept and fed well.

His older brother William, aged three, was delighted to have a little brother.

But the family's joy was short-lived when Thomas became ill.

His parents had noticed a tiny lesion on his arm but were told not to worry about it.

But after a GP felt something in Thomas' abdomen, the little boy was sent for an ultrasound.

Sheryl and Jon received the devastating news that their miracle baby had a rare and aggressive cancer.

Thomas bravely endured surgery to remove his left kidney, but doctors soon discovered that his skin lesion was also a tumour and there were tumours in his lungs, and hip bone.

The cancer had spread throughout the little boy's body, and he was given a terminal diagnosis.

As his parents don't know how long Thomas has left, they decided to make the most of the time they have.

They threw a birthday party for the four-month-old tot with a cake, decorations, balloons, food and party favours.

They also took the boys on a special trip to Queensland, to visit theme parks and create precious memories.

“It has always been in our books to take the boys there when they are older, we just had to make some changes," Sheryl said.

"We are trying to take one day at a time,” she told Kidspot.

“Some days are easy, and I am able to not think of the cancer and just enjoy time with my boys, but other days I can’t stop the tears and I panic that I am not capturing enough memories.”

Friends of the couple have launched a GoFundMe to help them cope with the hospital bills.
