Helen Flanagan has opened up about her past birth experience in June.

The mum revealed that she had apprehensions about having a natural birth the second time around.

The Coronation Street star gave birth to baby Delilah fairly quickly. So quickly, in fact, that her fiancé, footballer Scott Sinclair, almost missed the precious moment.

The actress decided to have a water birth, aided only by gas and air, but recently shared the experience’s tax on her mentally and physically.

In a recent interview with OK! Magazine, Helen revealed just how worried she was about Delilah’s birth:

“I felt very anxious during my pregnancy about giving birth naturally, so I had mentioned to Scott that I’d like a Caesarean section – but when I read that there is a six-week recovery time, I realised it was unrealistic with Matilda to look after too.”

This anxiety was most likely rooted in Helen’s experience with her firstborn Matilda, just three years ago.

In her interview, Helen said that she was in excruciating pain when she had Matilda due to her positioning in the womb.

Doctors were forced to snip Helen and use forceps to pull the baby out, but it was all worth it when the mum got to hold her baby girl in her arms for the first time.

These memories of childbirth flashed through the mum's mind as it grew nearer to Delilah's due date.

Nevertheless, Helen was very conscious of her and Scott’s responsibility to mind their toddler and factored this in during the planning of Delilah’s birth.

This is why she opted for the natural birth rather than a Caesarean.

“Luckily, my labour went really well although it was much more painful than my first birth. At points I felt like I was about to explode because the contractions were so intense!” the mum admitted.”

And although it was painful, the actress and her partner could not be happier to have two healthy and gorgeous girls.

Three-year-old Matilda loves her new role as a big sister to little Delilah, and we are delighted that Helen feels she has made the right decision for her family.
