The danger posed by asbestos in schools has been widely reported on in recent times, and now, a national helpline is seeking to address the issue for once and for all.

The Asbestos Advice Helpline has this week released a new infographic containing vital information on the issue and risks of asbestos in schools, for parents and school employees throughout the country.

You can view the full infographic through this link.

When released into the atmosphere, asbestos fibres can lead to respiratory conditions such as Asbestosis and Mesothelioma, and this clear and easy-to-understand infographic seeks to raise awareness of these dangers.

Asbestos material has been found in almost 90% of schools in the UK, and it can take very little for the fibres to be released into the atmosphere, including the slamming of doors and the pinning of work on the walls.

With a current government policy of ‘manage rather than remove’, the new infographic is drawing attention to the detailed risks and long-term impacts of asbestos in old schools.

Commenting after the infographic’s release, Asbestos Advice Helpline’s Nicola Choa said: “Asbestos exposure can lead to related respiratory diseases and it’s something we all need to take more seriously. We’re hoping that the new infographic will grab the attention of parents and educate them about the risks much better than the page of text will.”
