A baby boy born in Lexington, South Carolina broke a 30-year record when he was declared the biggest baby ever born in the hospital’s history.

Not-so-little Colin Austin Keisler gave both his parents and medical staff at Lexington Medical Centre a big surprise when he tipped the scales at 14.4 pounds.

According to the staff, he’s the biggest baby the doctor has ever delivered, and also the biggest baby any of the staff can recall being born in the history of the hospital.

"You never know what's going to happen," Donna Hinton, clinical coordinator for labour and delivery told a local TV station. "When you feel like you've seen it all, something's going to come through and blow you away, but nothing like a 14-pounder.”

Dad Arthur described Colin succinctly by saying: “He was a toddler at three days old!”

Colin was delivered by C-section, one week early, and his parents say he is a very happy, healthy baby. With the average weight for newborn babies being 7.5 pounds, Colin is already twice that size and is closer in weight to a four- to five-month-old than a newborn.

Mum Cindy Richmond encountered a problem that many other mums of slightly bigger newborns face: none of Colin’s baby clothes fit her big boy.

“We actually had to send my mom to our house and pick up different sizes, because I bought newborn to three months, and barely anything three to six months, which is what he's wearing right now," Cindy said.

Colin’s parents have high hopes for the youngster already. Football fan Arthur wants his son to be a defensive lineman for the local football team and, eventually, play for the famous Green Bay Packers.

The couple have two older children who weighed seven pounds and nine pounds, respectively, at birth, so Colin's impressive weight was quite unexpected.

Colin is the latest in a series of big babies to give their mums a surprise after the birth.

Lauren Flaugher recently gave birth to her baby son, Finn, and was left shocked to discover that he was too big to fit on the scales in the hospital.

“The scale only went up to 12 pounds, so our midwife looked at me and said, ‘We can’t use it',” Lauren, 29, told PEOPLE.

“I thought the scale was broken! But, turns out, Finn weighed 13 pounds at birth, so they had to bring in a bigger, digital scale,” she added.

Congratulations to Cindy and Arthur; Colin is a beautiful baby.
