As any celebrity will attest, maintaining a relationship in the glare of the media spotlight certainly isn't easy.

Having to deal with constant speculation would put a strain on the most solid of foundations, but while most couples choose to ignore the rumours, one high-profile couple felt compelled to speak out this week.

Following innumerable reports that Donna Air and James Middleton had called time on their relationship, the couple decided to quash the rumours and set the record straight.

In a statement which was released to the Mail On Sunday, James and Donna insisted that they were dumbfounded by recent reports.

Beginning their statement with a literary reference, the pair. who have been dating sine February 2013, said: "Mark Twain once complained that reports of his death were exaggerated."

Elaborating on the point, James, who is the brother of the Duchess of Cambridge, and Donna continued: "A few days ago we were equally amazed to read the obituaries of our relationship splashed across the national press."

Determined to assure fans that the rumours and reports had little grounding in reality, the pair insisted: "Happily, we can report that our relationship is not over. We are still very much a couple and have not parted ways."

Determined to hammer home the point, 28-year-old James and 36-year-old Donna, who has a 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, finished: "These stories are completely untrue and without merit."

We're so happy to hear it!
