Connie Yates claims that the power of hope is what has helped her and partner Chris Gard through the past few turbulent months.

The mother of 11-month-old Charlie Gard opened up in a new interview with MailOnline.com, as they await the final result of a High Court hearing. The judgment is expected either today or tomorrow.

“Hope has kept us going all this time. Until you find yourself in a situation like this, you have no idea how powerful hope is,” Connie said, in the new interview.

She and Chris are hoping that the courts will grant them the opportunity to bring Charlie to the States for an experimental treatment. Thanks to crowdfunding, they already have the £1.3 million they need to make the trip work.

Following intervention from The Pope and Donald Trump, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) brought a fresh case to the courts last week. Executives there believe that Charlie will have no quality of life going forward and should be allowed to ‘die with dignity’.

Earlier this week, presiding judge Mr Justice Francis ordered Connie and Chris to present new evidence proving that the treatment they are seeking will have a significant impact on Charlie’s condition.

With the help of medics from around the world, Connie and Chris were able to make the submission. Now, it’s just a case of waiting for the final decision.

Connie and Chris have campaigned tirelessly for Charlie to be given a chance, and they have consistently maintained that his condition is not as bad as medics have been claiming.

“We have never felt Charlie is as bad as doctors make out,” Connie told the MailOnline.

“And I defy any parent of a sick child who is told by an eminent doctor there may be a chance of saving that child’s life not to want to take it.

“We only wish people could trust us as his parents.”

People from all over the world have been adding their voices to the mix, to support Charlie and his parents.

Earlier this week, two American Congressmen tabled a bill calling for Charlie to be made a US citizen, so that he can overcome the law of the land and travel to the States for treatment.
