Reactions to stories of babies being left in hot cars are always tinged with confusion, but one mum has decided to share her story in a bid to illustrate how easy accidents can happen.

The woman – who has not shared her name but has appeared on local news in Texas, US – lost her five-month-old daughter, Lily, in such an accident.

According to KHOU.com, the woman usually brought her two older children to school in the mornings. However, on that fateful day, her husband decided to bring all three kids - including Lily - to school and daycare.

After dropping off his eldest children, the father forgot about Lily and only realised his mistake when he went to collect her, hours later. Sadly, Lily did not survive the incident.

Recalling her reaction to the horrific news, the brave mother said: “There were 15 seconds of, ‘How could he do that?’…Then, immediately, instant forgiveness washed over me.”

While her husband is reportedly still too distraught to speak publicly about the tragedy, the mother has chosen to share her story in a bid to help other families enduring similar loss.

The mother, who has been writing letters to other parents enduring the same turmoil, said: “If I can help one family, one child…It’s important for people to know that it happens to good people.”

It takes a lot of bravery to speak out amid such unimaginable pain. Our thoughts go out to this family.
