How could you leave her?: Gemma Atkinson has a message for mum-shamers

Gemma Atkinson has only been a mum for a mere two weeks but she is already dealing with unsolicited parenting advice.

The new mum went for a walk for 10-minutes to clear her head but she couldn’t enjoy the peaceful stroll as she was papped once she left her house.

Once the photos were shared online, Gemma was hit with backlash for leaving her baby.

The mum was quick to defend herself and we have to commend her for being so strong. She has every right to go for a walk without her daughter. Baby Mia was safe at home with her grandmother.

“My midwife and health visitor advised me to take a walk if I could as it’s good for mental health in new mums. I’ve had a pap sat in a car on my street ever since I gave birth, I know they have a job to do, but I explained to the health visitor that it was kinda putting me off leaving my house,” she explained.

She continued, “Being a new mum can be a little overwhelming and you can never win with your choices. I’ve had the “how could you leave her so young” messages and also the “good for you for getting out” messages. I’ve been in my garden in the sun loads but it was still nice to actually see other human beings!”

Gemma continued to open up about the impact parenthood has had on her life so far and how she’s coping with the new chapter.

“It was also nice to have some time alone with Gorks. I’m fully aware guys can feel a little left out or on the sidelines when baby arrives because as a mum your priorities shift. He’s been SO great with everything and it’s been tough for him being on the road. I’m glad we got the 10 min trip in and although we dashed back, Mia continued to sleep a further two hours unaware we had even left,” the mum wrote.

Gemma is too right, you really can’t win so you may as well do whatever is best for you.
