Our emotions are not something a lot of us think that we need to take care of, often just assuming they’ll look after themselves.

However, looking after your emotional health is just as important as your mental and physical health. Remember, your mind and feelings can only take so much before they start to have a negative impact on you.

Make sure you take note of the following tips for a healthy and happy emotional self.

1. Be an optimist

It is easy to see the bad things a lot quicker than the good, but it is important you try to focus on something positive, even it’s just one thing, and be optimistic about the future.

2. Accept who you are

Don’t bog yourself down with negative thoughts or a bad self-image. Accept who you are and stop measuring yourself against others – you will instantly feel a weight lift off yourself.

3. Connect with people

Make sure you surround yourself with positive people who support and love you for you. A text or an email every day if you don’t have time to visit can work just as well.

4. Exercise regularly

Exercise helps to stimulate feel good endorphins that give you a positive outlook and helps to ward off depression.

5. Make sure you keep learning

Keep your brain and mind ticking over by learning. And while we don't mean head back to school, start a course, join a class, read more or even watch documentaries. You will feel a huge sense of satisfaction that will benefit you more in the long run.
