A young US mum has touched hearts around the world this week, after launching a Facebook search to find her birth mother.

Kathleen O’Shea took to the social networking site to write an impassioned appeal to the woman who left her in the ladies' room of Baystate Medical Hospital, in June of 1991, when she was just 10 days old.

Having pieced together her story from her adoptive mother and newspaper articles from the time, Kathleen revealed that she still doesn’t know the name of the woman who carried her and brought her into the world.

Addressing her birth mother directly, Kathleen wrote: “Technically, if you're reading this, or ever do, you have two grandchildren. I gave birth to both of them at Baystate.”

“Now that I’m a mother, and have a wonderful family of my own, I truly understand the heartache and decisions you must’ve gone through. I don’t resent you, or hate you, or hold anything against you. I guess, well, I’m just curious in a way,” she added.

After putting it off for years, Kathleen revealed that she is now eager to track her mum down.

“I’m hoping to find my birth mother. If anyone has any tips, ideas, or knows anything or anyone, please contact me! I’m finally putting this out there, and I just can’t go on not knowing. Maybe the power of social media will work in my favour,” she wrote.

With Kathleen’s post now fast gathering traction, it looks like she may yet receive her happy ending.
