Women were envious of her character on Sex and the City. They wanted her glamorous wardrobe that was full of designer dresses. They wished they could spend their Saturday nights sipping on Cosmopolitans. They were extremely jealous of her thrilling love life. However, Kim Cattrall has revealed that playing Samantha on the romantic comedy series wasn’t as exciting as it seemed.

One thing the audience failed to see was the extreme number of hours Kim worked. She shared that her gruelling work schedule took over her life. Filming the popular show may have looked like a ball, but Kim said it had a negative impact on her life.

In her appearance on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, she said, “I have 19-hour days on this series. I have weekends where I finish on Saturday morning. My Monday morning would start at 4:45 a.m. and go to one or two in the morning.”

Kim was in her 40s when they began filming Sex and The City. She had heard about IVF treatments but knew in her heart that she didn’t have the time for the procedures, even though she wanted to become a mum.

She shared, “The chances of getting pregnant with these procedures was all everyone was talking about."

Kim was disappointed when she realised she couldn’t commit to IVF treatment, “It was the first moment, it was extraordinary, in my life where I thought maybe I’m just not going to do this.”

She was left disheartened when she couldn’t have kids of her own, but Kim discovered that she could still be a motherly figure to the young women who looked up to her.

Kim befriended younger actresses who she shared her words of wisdom with, just like a mum would with her own children.

She believed it helped her cope with her unfulfilled desire to become a mum, “I thought I have a place to be a mom here, not a biological mom, but a mom and an auntie and a friend.”

The actress believes you can be a motherly figure without having your own children. She agreed that every woman is born with a natural maternal instinct.

Kim found a way to use her maternal instinct by taking young actresses under her wing.

The 61-year-old actress believes mentoring younger women has given her a strong sense of purpose. It has given her the chance to teach them valuable life lessons that will guide them through the entertainment industry and life in general.

She said, “That has really given me so much, as much as I give I get twofold back.”
