We’re used to seeing celebrity parents document every milestone of their child’s life on social media, from birth to first day at school.

But Anne Hathaway is one star who’s notoriously private when it comes to her child. The actress has never shared a photo of young Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman,1, to social media until now. Anne recently posted a snap of the tot, only showing the back of his head, but said she instantly regretted it afterwards.

"I had never posted a photo of my son, and I decided to post a shot of the back of his head, and almost as soon as I’d done it, I wished that I hadn’t,” she confessed in an interview with Jezebel.

"I felt like I had broken some kind of a seal in inviting people into my life.

"And even though I felt as though I had done it in as protective a way as I could, even though it was a moment I was incredibly proud of, I don’t know that I’ll ever do it again.”

Like all mums, Anne is very proud of her son but as a celebrity she faces more scrutiny than most people. She fears that if she started posting regular photos of her son online, she would be opening his life up to public scrutiny also.

She says that while she used to enjoy Instagram, she’s now far more cautious about what she posts online. “Instagram, when I first started, it was so much fun”, the actress reminisced.

“Now, because of the time we live in, I think words and pictures are carrying a much greater weight.

“Or, much less depending on how you engage with it.”

Even though directors and publicists have asked her to be active on social media while promoting her new film Colossal, Anne isn’t going to post anything that she’s not totally comfortable with.

In the past, the actress faced trolling online after starring in Les Miserables and she also faced body-shaming at the gym after having her baby, according to Entertainment Times.

Anne told Ellen DeGeneres that she’d noticed one of the trainers at her gym staring at her so she tried to make friendly conversation. She told the man she’d had a baby seven weeks beforehand and he replied “Oh trying to lose the baby weight?"

Anne politely told him she was just trying to build up her strength rather than lose weight so soon after giving birth. But she admitted she “cried a little” when the man walked away.

Being in the public eye can’t be easy and we think Anne handles herself with dignity. She is certainly setting a very good example in the way she uses social media and her son will probably thank her later in life.
