We've always admired John Legend and Chrissy Teigen for being a down-to-earth, honest celebrity couple.

Chrissy has always been open about the difficult side of motherhood, from displaying her stretch marks, defending other celebrity mums and calling out "mommy-shamers."

So our hearts went out to the model when she revealed she suffered from postpartum depression after having the couple's baby, Luna.

John explained how much he admires his wife for her brave admission in a recent interview with Vanity Fair.

"I am so proud of her for writing about her struggles and letting people know about it. It takes a lot of courage and she really is amazing for doing that."

“The reason why she acknowledged the pain that she's going through was for her to let other women know that they’re not alone, and that it can happen to anyone.”

The dedicated dad said it was a difficult experience for him also as he didn't know how to help his wife.

“To be honest, I was really scared because I didn’t know what exactly she was feeling or how to help her,” Legend continued.

“All I knew was that it was my job to do everything I could to help her and try to understand what she was going through. It’s about being compassionate and supporting her, and telling her no matter what, I am going to be there for her and that I love her."

Chrissy shared her experiences of postpartum depression in a frank essay for Glamour magazine.

The 31-year-old explained: “I just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny."

"But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason why it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do,” she said.

Chrissy told her followers that she'd suffered from aches and pains, low energy and "spontaneous crying."

The model has since sought help and is making a good recovery.

We think both Chrissy and John are courageous for sharing their experiences of postpartum depression.
