One woman has issued a heartfelt plea to mums begging them to keep their sick kids home from school, even if they don’t seem ‘that bad’.
Mia Carella explained that something as simple as a common cold can be life threatening for her daughter in the emotional letter on Facebook.
Her little girl is immunocompromised and was born with major congenital heart defects so being around poorly children can be extremely dangerous for her.
She shared a photo of her daughter Evalyn with an oxygen mask on her.
The mum pleaded, “This is your friendly reminder to please keep your sick kids home from school. I’m begging you.”
“If you are offended by this - I’m sorry. I know I don’t know your situation. I know it’s not easy to take off from work or arrange childcare to keep a child home.”
She continued to explain how much danger her daughter’s health is in, “But I also know that you don’t know MY situation. If you did, you would understand.
“You don’t know that when you are the parent of a medically complex child, a “simple” cold or virus is actually very complicated,” she explained.
“You don’t know that a common cold can turn into a life threatening issue for our child in the blink of an eye. You don’t know that we may have serious medical procedures scheduled and that it is imperative for our child to stay healthy so that these appointments can happen.
“So, please, don’t be offended. Instead try to put yourself in my shoes. And, before you send your sick child to school, please think of my child,” she concluded.
Mia’s emotional plea will certainly change the way we think of mere illnesses like a cold.
