Benjamin Wayne was born with a genetic condition called Connexin 26, which is the most common cause of hearing loss.

The young boy was fitted with hearing aids at just four weeks old and last year, when it was clear that he was not receiving sufficient sound, he was referred to St. Thomas' hearing implant centre.

Here it was confirmed that Benji, as he is affectionately known as, needed Cochlear Implants, which would allow the young boy's speech to develop before his hearing completely deteriorates.

Unfortunately, the three-year-old falls outside the NHS's criteria for implants, and in order to purchase them the Wayne family would need to raise a staggering £80,000.

To help raise the money, Joanna Wayne, Benji's mums, set up Benji's Magic Ears in March, a JustGiving page where people could donate money.

"We have tried numerous other pieces of technology and this is the only option that will allow Benji access to sufficient sounds for his speech to develop during this critical age in his development. Time is against us as Benji is at the crucial age for development and we now have no choice but to raise the £80,000 that is essential for Ben to learn to hear, speak and communicate."

Incredibly, the target was reached in just a few short weeks, and Benji will be having surgery to get his implants fitted this weekend.

Amazing, well done to everyone who donated!
