Danny and Betty Roberson's life together was blissful, that was until the were both diagnosed with cancer.

Betty died this year, after going through the highest dosage of chemo a body can handle with no avail.

"You know it’s something you never really plan for and even though I knew it was coming. When she did pass, it was very sudden. It just hits you in the gut," Danny said, speaking to local media.

While there were other treatments available to her to prolong her life, the couple couldn't afford them.

Now, carrying on her memory, Danny has decided to use the pay out from her life insurance to help others out of medical debt.

"There’s no telling how many people put off things that need to be done due to fear of the cost you know how they're going to be left once they have whatever procedure it is," Danny said. "That’s a shame that people don't get things done out of fear."

Danny knows it all too well, he put off getting a tumour on his face removed so he could care for Betty.

"She kept after me to do it," said Danny. "As soon as you know the peace was made with her, I knew that's what she want me to do."

Knowing that Betty would want him to help others, he donated $10,000 to RIP Medical Debt, a non-profit that buys medical debt for pennies on the dollar. With that amount, he was able to pay off over one million dollars worth of debt.

"When they go out and see that RIP medical envelope in their mail box, I know God is blessing them and I know Betty may have had a little bit to do with that," Danny said.

A heartbreaking death, and a kind decision, that has granted strangers a second chance at life.
