Aw, so lovely!
Some stories we come across are so wonderful they become seared into our consciousness, so when we get to revisit them, we feel so privileged.
Like the story about Ohio twins Jenna and Jillian Thistlethwaite, who in 2014 became known around the world after they grabbed each other moments after leaving the womb.
People were moved by this display of pure love and connectedness, and it made us imagine what it must have felt like inside the womb for these babies. And even more so because they were actually monoamniotic twins, sharing the same amniotic sac. Monoamniotic twins are rare, and are high risk as their umbilical cords can become entangled, cutting off the supply of blood to one or both babies.
But now two years later, Jenna and Jillian are thriving, mischievous toddlers, and according to their mum Sarah, their bond is as strong as ever.
“Sometimes if my husband goes to the store, he'll take one twin and I'll keep the other,” she told People. “When that happens, they both get really upset and ask for each other. They're definitely really close. They’re like two peas in a pod.
“If one twin is crying, the other will try to find a way to comfort her, like going to find a pacifier or rubbing the other's back or offering a hug. They always take care of each other.”
We’re in awe of the precious bond these twins – and all twins for that matter – share. From sharing a sac, to grasping each other when they entered the world, to growing into best friends, the part they play in each other’s lives is so special.
“Twins have this special bond and I can't wait to watch them grow up and be best friends,” their proud mum says.
