She disappeared from our radars for a few years, following backlash over her comments about Knocked Up and Grey’s Anatomy, but Katherine Heigl is back and on top form – and it’s all thanks to her daughters.

In an interview with news.com.au, the US actress admitted that intense criticism left her wondering who she really was as a person, but adopting her daughters – seven-year-old Naleigh and four-year-old Adelaide – set her right.

“At a certain point, I had to think, ‘Who do I really, really want to like me?’, and that question saved me because there aren’t many people. I want my husband to like me, my family, and I hope one day my children will like me,” she said.

The 37-year-old, who is currently pregnant with a son, added: “All of that is easier to take since becoming a mum. I have a better perspective because my life became so much bigger than just worrying what people think about me. Up until then, my life was my career, but I have distance from it now.”

As for the forthcoming birth of her first biological child with husband Josh, Katherine admitted that she’s expecting the nerves to kick in closer to her due date, in January.

“It’s done. So I can’t worry about it. Millions of women have done it, so I’ll be alright. Although I will be asking for an epidural a week before,” she revealed.

We’re wishing Katherine all the best with the rest of her pregnancy journey.
