She has come in for major criticism down through the years, for broadcasting her controversial opinions to the world, but Katie Hopkins has surprised everyone with her latest, surprisingly compassionate post.

The reality star, who is mum to three children, shared a video blog for Now magazine in which she urges women not to let life get in the way of starting a family.

In a recording that is a far cry from her usual unapologetic rants against celebrities and other mums alike, the 40-year-old opens up on her own experience of starting a family at the age of 28.

Admitting that she wasn’t happy when she first found out she was pregnant, having just received an amazing promotion in her job in New York, she goes on to say that she is extremely grateful for how everything worked out.

“When I think about having children before 35, I think chance did me a favour. I was 10 weeks pregnant when I realised something was missing and had gained twice the boobs I used to have. Even then, I refused to believe the little blue line on the stick. I threw myself on the floor, yelled, cried, screamed. This baby was not planned,” she revealed.

However, Katie, who was recently nominated as celebrity Mum of the Year, added: “12 years on and three children later, I am so grateful I had them when I did. Every day I meet women my age rocketing up the career ladder but weighed down with a heavy heart and a partner and parents knocking on her ovaries, hoping for a baby to answer.”

It’s good to see a more compassionate side to Katie. Let’s hope there will be more of this in the future.
