The former Coronation Street actress opened up about why she as a parent won’t allow her nine-year-old daughter Polly to join Instagram.
Social media is a bit of a scary place for parents, and allowing your children uncensored access to it can be a difficult decision. Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman revealed recently that she has yet to allow her two daughters access to an Instagram account, despite their determined pleas.
Following this, Morning Live presenter, Kym Marsh has also opened up about her thoughts on the matter, in a column in OK! Magazine.
“Nicole Kidman revealed last week that she wasn’t keen for her daughters, Sunday, 12, and Faith, nine, to be on social media. She said her girls were 'chomping at the bit' to join but she was reluctant to let them as she can’t easily monitor technology,” Kym explained.
“I have to say that I agree. Instagram’s age restriction is 13 and older and I believe that’s there for a reason. Polly’s dad and I always say we don’t want her joining social media until she’s old enough – and even then I’d want her to be private and only follow friends and family.”
“There’s so much content on the internet that children see nowadays. They’re exposed to so much and as a parent it can feel hard to censor it all and or keep them safe which is so worrying,” Kym confessed.
The 44-year-old is a mum-of-three, including David, 25, and Emilie, 23, whom she shares with ex, Dave Cunliffe, and Polly, nine, whom she shares with husband Jamie Lomas. Kym is also a proud granny, after her daughter Emilie gave birth to a baby boy in May 2019.
