Anyone who doesn’t believe in little miracles need only read the following story, all the way from Germany, this evening.

A baby born to parents in the West German town of Witten has been hailed as the ‘world’s smallest surviving baby’.

Tiny Emilia Grabarczyk entered the world nine months ago, weighing just eight ounces and measuring 8.6 inches.

According to local media outlets, there was a problem with the placenta’s development, meaning Emilia was not receiving adequate nutrition.

Fearing that she would not survive any longer in the womb, mum Sabine’s medical team made the tough decision to deliver Emilia via C-section at just 26 weeks.

Things were touch-and-go for Emilia right after her birth: she was fed with a tube and had to undergo surgery of the abdomen. Thankfully, however, the tot is now ‘thriving’ and is tipping the scales at 106 ounces.

Opening up to local media, mum Sabine said: “There were many difficult days and many tears, but she clearly wanted to survive.”

Emilia clinches the title of the ‘world’s smallest surviving baby’ from another tot born in Chicago, in 2004, who weighed in at 8.6 ounces.

We’re wishing baby Emilia all the best along the journey ahead.
