We have reported on some pretty astonishing cases, from babies being swapped at birth to children being reunited with their parents after decades, but this story has to be one of the most unique we have ever heard.

A long-lost brother and sister have been reunited 15 years after their separation – after swiping right for each other on the dating app Tinder.

Erik de Vries and Josephine Egberts went down separate paths in life over a decade ago, after their parents separated in 1999. While Erik and his brother, Maarten, moved to Belgium, Josephine headed to Breda in the Netherlands.

However, Erik and Josephine happened upon each other once again, while browsing through profiles on Tinder. The couple initially began flirting on the dating app, but quickly realised that there were some striking familiarities.

Erik told local media: “I began to wonder to myself, it can’t be that I just had a Tinder match with my sister?”

The pair decided to meet up, and as soon as they saw each other in person they knew their suspicions were absolutely correct.

“When I saw him, it was suddenly very clear. It was so special to see my own blood brother again after 16 year,” said Josephine.

What a fascinating - if incredibly awkward - turn of events!
