Mel B has been quiet on social media since her divorce from Stephen Belafonte, amidst allegations of domestic violence during their 10-year marriage.
However, the 42-year-old singer posted her first photo on Instagram in two months yesterday, showing her birthday celebrations. More surprisingly, though, was the appearance of her estranged mother, Andrea.
It's the first time Mel has been pictured with her mother in 10 years, according to People.
During Mel and Belafonte's marriage, Andrea was outspoken with her views on Belafonte, who has faced serious allegations of physical and emotional abuse against Mel.
Mel also paid tribute to her late father, Michael Brown, in her Instagram snap. Two weeks before her very public divorce, Michael died after a five-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer, at the age of 63.
Mel captioned the photo with a loving message to her late dad, Martin: "My eyes are closed, but I see and feel you, Dad. You are missed every second of everyday. Me, my mum, my three daughters today celebrated you for being the most important man in our lives #restinpeacedaddy".
Prior to their decade-long estrangement, Mel and Andrea were very close, with the mum appearing in the Spice Girls' 1996 video for their song, Mama.
When Mel B filed for divorce in April, Andrea tweeted: “4 the 1st time in almost 10yrs I can go 2 bed knowing my daughter and the kids r safe no more abuse 4 any of us [sic].”
Mel and Stephen Belafonte met back in February 2007, and were married four months later. They welcomed their daughter, Madison, in September 2011. Mel is also mum to 18-year-old Phoenix Chi, her daughter from her first marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar; and nine-year-old Angel Iris, her daughter from her relationship with actor Eddie Murphy.
Mel and Belafonte's marriage came under scrutiny throughout her time as a judge on The X Factor. In 2014, she appeared to have bruises on her arm and face, and missed appearances on the show's finale episodes that season.
She responded to the swirling rumours that Belafonte had caused her bruises, saying: "For the record, my hubby would never lay a hand on me."
However, the couple divorced this year, with divorce filings documenting the severe abuse as well as allegations that Belafonte carried on a seven-year affair with the couple's nanny,
