It seems guilt comes part and parcel with being a mum, however it needn’t be. As long as your little one is happy and healthy there is no need to feel guilty at all.

Here are the most common times mums feel guilty and how to deal with them:

Giving your kids junk food
We have all heard just how bad giving your child junk food is but don’t stress if you give it to them every now and then. If you remember everything in moderation you shouldn’t feel guilty at all. We all deserve a treat every now and then, don’t we?

Leaving your child to go to work
Maybe you go to work because your finances require you to or maybe you go just to have contact with adults for a few hours a day, either way you should never feel guilty. Just make the time you have with your little ones that bit more special - when you are with them, be with them i.e turn off phones, computers, TV and anything else that may distract you.

Giving out to them
No mum likes to give out to their child but sometimes needs must. Often mums can yell because they are stressed out, so, if this sounds like you, simply apologise to your child and shed any guilt – it’s a waste of energy anyway.

Not having enough money
Every family is different, where some kids get the latest accessories your little one might rely on hand-me-downs. Don’t ever feel guilty about this. What you can’t give your child in materialistic things you no doubt give in love and lots of it. Plus, think of the lesson you’re teaching them – they can’t have everything they want.

TV time
We all know kids should be playing with their toys and that the TV is not an ideal way to entertain them, but every now and then if it is the only way to get peace and quiet, go for it. Leave the mum guilt outside the front door.

Wanting ‘you time’
Feeling guilty because you simply want to go out without the kids is probably one of the most common mum guilt trips. Remember, you need time to recharge your batteries as well – a happy mum equals a happy child.

Now, go close the door on that unnecessary mum guilt and start spending time with your children.
