A mother in Florida is celebrating today after finally being able to hold her twin sons on her own since their birth almost two months ago.

Michelle Brantley delivered conjoined twins Carter and Conner at the end of last year, but up until today the infants were not strong enough to be taken from their bed in the NICU in Wolfson's Children's Hospital.

Being able to soothe her sons in a rocking chair was a very special moment for Michelle who said: "It was very exciting. I was so happy. I had the biggest smile on my face. I was excited. I was already sitting in the chair waiting for them to bring them to me."

The boys have thus far undergone one surgery, but still remain joined at the liver. Their upbeat mum expects surgeons to have completed the separation process within the next year.

According to their mum, Carter and Conner are continuing to improve and the family are currently planning a party to welcome the boys once they are discharged from hospital.
