Katie Price has announced the sad news that her mother Amy is suffering from a terminal lung condition.

"My mum’s got something wrong with her lungs and she’s been told she hasn’t got very long to live," Katie told The Sunday Mirror.

Amy, 64, said she had to break the sad news to her two daughters, Katie, 39, and Sophie, 27.

She said: “I was given some bad news. Sophie, my daughter, said, ‘I could research this. Where can I Google it? What doctors are involved?’

“Katie said, ‘Mum, you haven’t got long left you might as well make the most of it.

"Carry on, you’re getting old, but at least you know what you’re going to die of’ ".

The glamour model also tried to lighten the situation by cracking jokes during Amy’s hospital tests.

“During the tests, which were really quite personal, Katie was making so many funny comments that both myself and the specialist were in fits of laughter,” Amy explained.

“It was outrageously funny. That’s what I like about her, her sense of humour. But also, she’s a trier. It’s an ethic of the family that we work hard and if we fail at something we try again”, she added.

However, despite Katie’s attempts to keep a brave face in the aftermath of her mum’s devastating diagnosis and her marriage split from Kieran Hayler, she received criticism online for sharing details of her mum’s illness.

Taking to Twitter to comment on the reports, one member of the public wrote: "She's awful selling out her mum's privacy but funny how she's more bothered about her stupid tour than spending time with her dying mum”.

"Is there nothing sacred enough for her to keep private? Unbelievable!"  another wrote.

Katie later provided an update on her mum’s diagnosis, posting a note to Twitter.

“My mum has been diagnosed with a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this.

“Those with the condition have an average life expectancy of three to five years. There are two known pills which can slow things down if they work.

“My family and I are proud to be supporting the British Lung Foundation to help raise awareness and funds for research into IPF.

“My mum is a fighter, she is working out every day, going to work and living life to the full. Please help us in supporting the British Lung Foundation so we can make a difference”.
