Her story made headlines around the world earlier this month, and now finally the mother whose child was found in a church Nativity scene has spoken out.

In an interview with the New York Post this week, the woman revealed how she ‘knew if she left her baby in God’s hands, he would be ok’.

The woman, who came to New York from Mexico five months ago, revealed that no one – including the baby’s father – knew she was pregnant.

She is currently living in New York with her aunt, who still doesn’t know that she is the mother from the Queens Nativity story.

Revealing that she was able to hide her pregnancy with loose-fitting clothes, the woman said that she believed she was due in December – which is why she was “extremely scared” to find herself in labour last week, alone at home.

After delivering her baby herself, at home, the woman decided to bring her newborn son to the safest place she could imagine: a church.

“I’m very religious, and I thought about the Holy Child Jesus Church. I’ve been there before, and the people there are good. I knew if I left him in God’s hands, he would be ok,” she told reporter Lorena Mongelli.

She said that, having spoken to members of the church, she knows now her son is ok – but she is currently deciding what to do next.

“I’m still thinking about whether I am going to keep him. I haven’t decided yet, but it’s a possibility….I would love to be a mum one day, but right now, I don’t feel I’m ready. I don’t know when the right time would be, but I do need a stable job first,” she added.

The baby boy was discovered in the church creche’s Nativity scene by a priest.
