Lucy Constable’s four-year-old son Freddie has had bilateral congenital glaucoma since he was just three-months-old.
Freddie has undergone eight surgeries since then and is very lucky to still have the majority of his sight.
With the help of the staff at Great Ormond Street, Freddie has been able to see and to thank them for this, mum, Lucy ran a 5km race blindfolded to raise money for the hospital.
“Without Great Ormond Street, Freddie would have lost his sight and it is to represent how grateful we are for that.
“It gives you a sense of what he feels when he can’t see and when he comes out of surgery and he’s got these eye patches on his eyes.” said the mum.
Freddie’s condition, if treated properly early enough can mean his vision will remain unimpaired as an adult.
But for right now, Lucy just wants to enjoy her son’s childhood.
“I’m trying to concentrate on hoping he’ll be okay in school and manage alright and be able to see what he’s doing and fit in.
“In the future I hope he’s proud of what we’ve all done and hopefully he can carry on the fundraising that we’ve started under his name for Great Ormond Street.”
