The photo, which has since gone viral, initially created confusion among those who viewed it before being slammed for its content.
Many people who saw the photo initially assumed the little girl had her mouth pressed to her mum's elbow, but on closer inspection others came to the conclusion that the woman was breastfeeding the child while using the toilet.
Commenting on the image, Facebook users wrote: "That's gross. I think a walking baby can wait to breastfeed until one is off the toilet. I mean would you eat your meal on the toilet."
Another user was particularly offended by the image, posting: "That is the most disgusting thing I could ever think of in my life."
The caption of the image reads: "Every parent knows this joy", but doesn't specify that the woman is nursing the child.
Due to the angle of the photo, it is uncertain, but it certainly caused much discussion on the Life of Dad Facebook page and amassed almost a quarter of a million likes since its publication.
